The Smilewrights
We make smiles by hand. Do you remember the last handwritten letter you got? Most people do. The date, the handwriting, who it was from, where you were standing when you opened it.
Now think of someone who cannot remember theirs, because it has been years.
The Smilewrights is a small movement of mail lovers who set out to send kindness letters. Once a month, together, we each make a single comfort letter for a stranger who needs one: an elder in a care home, a patient a long way from home, a person a good charity already knows by name, and by address.
Why “smilewright”
A wright is a maker. A playwright makes plays. A wheelwright makes wheels. A shipwright makes ships. A smilewright makes smiles, by hand, the slow way, one letter at a time.
When you join, that is what you are: a smilewright.
How it works
One letter a month:
On the 1st, I post the month’s make: who we are writing to, a prompt to get you started, and where to send it. Every letter goes through a partner charity that already cares for the person, so yours lands exactly where it should.
You make your card or letter—you can get creative!—and post the decorated or plain envelope or card (whatever you want!) in our chat.
Mail it by the last Sunday of the month.
